The people were flowing in, the books were flowing out (thank you Hue-Man Book Store!), the cocktails were flowing too, courtesy of Nevan. Man everything was flowing in The beautiful River Room in fabulous New York. My friend and marketing guru Dedra Tate did an awesome job, and I have to give the most special thanks to my good friend Benny Pough, who though he couldn’t attend, did me proud with his unstinting support and generosity. Chad Coleman, Michael Kenneth Williams, Bobby Simmons and a bunch of other well-known faces kept that room buzzing from 7 till late. Enough of the Oscar speech though…what it was really all about was getting my story out there, so it could be shared with as many people as possible. As I said in my brief speech–I thought I would go to my grave with this story, and it took my son going to his, to make me finally open up my life to scrutiny. Because I know that by sharing my mistakes, and sharing my strength, I have the power to help thousands of kids who may be falling between the cracks. This is a story that must be told, and I want to share my heartfelt thanks for all of you out there, helping me tell it…
